Size

The main thing to think about is the size of the cooker that you are going to buy. The majority of freestanding cookers are 60cm wide, however, if you are short on space in your kitchen then you can opt for smaller models at 50cm and 55cm.

All of the width options are roughly the same height, and are designed to fit into a standard kitchen set up. Oven size is also something that you should consider, however it can be difficult to understand the capacity of an oven and how it will work for you.

Type

When it comes to layout of your cooker, there are a couple of options to consider. The standard approach to cookers is to have a four ring hob and at least one oven. However, you can also add in extra such as a storage drawer for tins and pans, a frill compartment or perhaps a second oven.

The most common approach is to have a main oven, a hob and a separate grill compartment. However, you can choose to have a grill that within your oven, particularly if you are looking to save money, however, you need to remember that you won’t be able to use both together.

Features

There are a number of features that come within your electric cooker to consider. One of the most common has to be the timer, which is included on even the cheapest of models. This keeps track of your cooking times and makes sure that your food isn’t burnt. You can also opt for touch controls rather than those that stick out, which makes them all the easier to clean.

Self cleaning oven

Self cleaning ovens are also becoming more popular, they come in the form of a catalytic self cleaning liner, which is found on the sides of the oven. They absorb any spills and splashes, breaking them down and burning them off during cooking. Ideal if you are not a huge fan of having to clean your oven.

You can even buy ovens that are programmable, turning your cooker on, timing your food and then turning the cooker off when the food is done. The ultimate in lazy cooking!

As well as being an important part of your kitchen, an electric cooker can be a great investment for your home. Helping you to cook up tasty meals for all of your family and guests.
